SUVs have been the rage in the Indian market for quite a while now. There have been a lot of manufacturers that have been bringing SUVs and it is quite difficult to pick the best one of them. Rs 12 lakh budget puts you in a spot wherein you have three choices to make if you want to buy an SUV. We are going to go through all these choices and we will let you decide which one is the best for you.

Compact SUV

We recommend that if you want to go for a safe car option in the compact SUV segment then you should look for Mahindra XUV300. This is the safest SUV in the Indian car market with a GNCAP rating of five stars. Also, this has the most powerful engine in the segment and is of sold with both petrol and diesel options. Under 12 lakhs, both petrol and diesel are available but all of variants are manual. You can buy the W4 variant in petrol as well as easily but you can also go for the W6 variant in petrol manual. Spending slightly more than just Rs 12,000 above Rs 12 lakhs can get you the AMT variant of the XUV300.

7 seater

Yes, you can get a seven-seater under Rs 12 lakh. The Mahindra Bolero starts at Rs 9.82 lakhs and you can go for the top diesel manual variant at Rs 10.99 lakhs. The Mahindra Bolero comes with a mHawk75 engine. This engine is a micro hybrid and all three variants get this system. The Mahindra Bolero gets a seven-seater layout with the last row of seats being side facing jumper seats. The car is pretty basic both in terms of features as well as design. Where safety is concerned, the car gets ABS, driver-side airbag, reverse parking sensors and seatbelt reminder. You get three colour options depending upon the variant. There is manual AC on offer on all three variants and keyless entry is provided only on the B6 variant.

Note: The other car that you can get with 7 seats but with a petrol engine, is the Maruti Ertiga and XL6. It will be a bit bigger, have better performance and have more features. Top variants will be more than Rs 12 lakhs.

SUV

If you are planning to buy a five-seater SUV which is bigger than the compact SUV segment then you will have to compromise on some features. You can get both the Hyundai Creta or the Kia Seltos for under Rs 12 lakh. The catch here is that you only get the base variants of both these cars under Rs 12 lakh. Both these variants are petrol and diesel manual variants. You should consider these cars only if you want the design and the brand value that comes associated with these cars. The other advantages of buying this size of SUVs is the bigger footprint that you get. You could modify the car according to your taste but remember that you cannot add safety features like traction control or more airbags. Features like a better music system, bigger alloy wheels and a sunroof can be added aftermarket. But there are some features that the base variants get. See below in our videos.
