SUV or Hatchback – Which Rs 14 lakh car to buy?

If you are looking to buy a Rs 14 lakhs car you are faced with the question of whether to buy an SUV or a hatchback? Both the top model Hyundai Venue and the Hyundai i20 have prices that end at approximately Rs 14 lakhs. We are going to note the pros and cons of both these cars over each other and let you decide which Rs 14 lakh car you should buy?

Prices and engines

If we look at the engines and the prices at which they are offered the Hyundai Venue comes at a lower price on every engine option but the top-end variant for the turbo petrol and diesel costs more. The engines that are offered are the same but they have a different state of tunes. The petrol unit on the i20 makes 83 bhp and 114 Nm of torque. On the Venue, it makes the same power but 1 Nm Less torque.

The diesel engine makes the same 100 bhp and 240 Nm of torque on both cars. The turbo petrol makes 120 bhp and is paired with 7-speed DCT or a 6-speed iMT. On the Venue, you get a manual option bonus. On diesel, you get a manual gearbox on both cars.

Fuel economy

The highest fuel economy is offered on the diesel variant of the i20. According to ARAI 25.2 km/l is the highest fuel economy. The least fuel-efficient engine is the naturally aspirated petrol engine that is on the Hyundai Venue. This engine feels a bit underpowered and you tend to push it to make the car pick up the pace. Overall the fuel efficiency ranges from 17 to 25 km/l.

Features

You get a Bose seven stereo speaker on the Hyundai i20 whereas the Hyundai Venue gets Arkamys sound mood. The ambient light on both cars is static and there is no customization provided for it. The Hyundai Venue gets a smaller touchscreen at 8 inches whereas the one on the Hyundai i20 is a 10-inch display.

Safety

In terms of safety, both these cars go hand-in-hand. Both get the heel to assist electronic stability control ABS with EBD and a high tensile high strength steel platform. Both these cars are not being tested for GNCAP safety ratings. Also, they both come with an equal amount of active and passive safety features. They also get 6 airbags.

Space

Both these cars have different body type and space seems like the most obvious deciding factor between these cars. In terms of length, they are the same at 3995mm. Hyundai i20 is a bit wider at 1775mm than the Venue at 1770mm. The real difference comes in the height where the i20 is 100 mm smaller than the Venue. So when you go to buy a Rs 14 lakh car it is almost up to you which type of car you want to buy. The features are almost similar and you could end up buying a vehicle that suits your driving style.
