MG Astor spotted – two engines expected

The MG Astor is an SUV that has been testing for a while. We have come across spy shots of this SUV being tested in Gujarat. Here is why we think that there will be two engines expected on this car.

As you can see from the images two test mules were spotted testing. There is a possibility that there will be 2 engines on this SUV. Both these cars were under camouflage and no badging could be seen. These test mules have been spotted multiple times in Gujarat.

Which 2 Engines?

We expect MG to provide one naturally aspirated petrol engine on this SUV whereas the same petrol engine will be given a hybrid powertrain on the higher variants.

Now you might think why would a hybrid engine be provided on a car that already sells in electric. No diesel engine will be provided on this SUV. So if you want a mileage focused engine then we could see this hybrid engine stepping in. Alternatively, there could be a turbocharged petrol engine to compete with Creta’s turbo engine. The reason why we think the turbo engine is less likely to appear is that the car is already small for a 1.5 L naturally aspirated engine. It will provide good power to weight ratio and act as a performance engine. With the rising fuel prices, there is a higher need for an economical engine which could either be provided by diesel or hybrid.

MG also has a hybrid option with the Hector and will want Astor buyers to also have this experience and technology benefit.

Other features

With the MG Astor petrol, we might see some of the signature features that we see on Hector. There will be a very good connected car system on this SUV too. MG might also improve its voice recognition system and add local languages for certain commands. Also, the sunroof knob is a really unique feature that lets you open the sunroof without taking your eyes off the road. These are the things that we expect on the MG Astor.
