The fact that Maruti is bringing its off-roader for Indian customers is hidden from none. The car is already being exported from here to foreign countries like the UK, and launching it here will be a no difficult task. The brand has been evaluating an India-specific strategy for quite some time now. We expect the Maruti Jimny to come sometime soon and there are 5 things that you need to know about it.

Indian cars that are AWD in foreign markets

Design

Jimny

Maruti Jimny is sold as a 3-door in the foreign market. For India, however, Maruti will mostly bring the 5-door variant. The 5-door has been spotted testing in some markets, hinting at Maruti planning one for global markets as well. With the 5-door variant, Maruti will be able to present a better value-for-money case to the customer. Also, more customers would be drawn towards the product.

Dimensions

jimny front

The 5-door version of the Maruti Jimny will be 3850mm long, 1645mm wide and 1730mm tall. The off-roader will get a 2550mm long wheelbase and will sit 210mm above the ground. With these dimensions, the Jimny will become a suitable off-roader along with being a comfortable family car.

Maruti Rs 4 lakh car – What do we expect?

Specifications

Maruti Jimny spy shot 1

The car will mostly come powered by the Maruti’s K15B petrol engine that it also uses in cars like Vitara Brezza, Ertiga, Ciaz & S-Cross. The engine is expected to make close to 101bhp and 130Nm of torque. This petrol unit will mostly come paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. The unit is also expected to come mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission as well. The car will mostly come sat on 15-inch wheels.

Features

Maruti SmartPLAY jimny

For India, Maruti might offer the Jimny with a basic 4WD. Off-roading data displayed on the touchscreen infotainment system, Brake limited-slip differential, hill descent control, hill hold and other features that help buyers experience off-roading are expected to be made available. With that being said, we do not expect Maruti to market Jimny as a proper off-roader. The addition of proper off-roading components would increase the costs for the brand, which will ultimately affect its final price. Along with the above-mentioned features, the car will also get adequate safety features like dual airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors & camera, etc.

Rs 10 Lakh Mahindra Thar being planned?

Pricing

We expect Maruti to price the Jimny somewhere around the Rs 10 Lakh price mark. With this target pricing, this off-roader would become an affordable option for many. Also, with Mahindra expected to launch a cheaper variant of the Thar, we expect Maruti to price the Jimny strategically.
