Honda City has been a really successful product for the brand. It in fact has been one of the longest-running products in India. The brand, over the years, has shifted the City’s image from a performance sedan to a premium comfort-focused sedan. With every update, the car has become smarter and more feature-loaded. Honda knows the capabilities of its City and thus brought out a hybrid variant of the same. The hybrid variant is called the Honda City RS, but we will be sticking with the Honda City hybrid for now. The brand is planning to bring this car to India soon. In this article, we will discuss this Rs 18 Lakh hybrid sedan that is coming soon.
The Honda City hybrid is nothing different than the regular car other than minor elements here and there that hint towards the hybrid variant. The hybrid car will get RS badging on the rear as well as the front, clearly making the hybrid easily differentiable. Honda City hybrid will also carry elements like diffuser plate at the rear, piano-black finished ORVM & spoiler and front grille with hexagonal mesh, Honda badge with blue accents and sporty fog lamp housings. The chrome strip housing the Honda badge is also expected to be finished in piano-black. The Honda City is mostly expected to remain the same on the inside as well. All-black interiors with red stitchings might be present to give a sporty feel to the City on the inside as well.
Rs 18 Lakh hybrid sedan specifications
The Honda City hybrid is expected to come powered by a 1.5-litre i-VTEC engine which will be capable of making 97bhp and 127Nm of torque. The engine will be coupled with two electric motors. One motor will work to bring the car to move from a halt. The second one will power the car and help it in propulsion. Three modes will mostly be present for the car to automatically choose from viz. only electric mode, hybrid mode and only engine mode. This will enable better mileage figures. Overall, the City hybrid will be capable of producing 108bhp and 253Nm of torque. The engine will come mated to a single-speed transmission on the hybrid variant.
Pricing, Launch & Rivals
As mentioned above, the car is mostly expected to touch the Rs 18 Lakh price tag since the hybrid variant will be the top-of-the-line offering once launched here. The sedan will see no actual rival in its segment. The next jump would be directly for the Toyota Camry in terms of hybrids and the sedan costs close to Rs 48 Lakhs in the country. The hybrid is expected to launch sometime this year.
