2022 Toyota Land Cruiser – What do we know till now?
Toyota Land Cruiser, the king of true SUVs is ready with an update which is expected to be unveiled pretty soon. The new-gen Land Cruiser 300 (LC300) will be an upgrade from the Toyota Land Cruiser 200. Along with the launch of the new-gen vehicle, the brand will also celebrate the 70th Anniversary of this iconic SUV. Design
The 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser will follow much of the design language of its predecessor, however, get some new elements in order to match with the modern appeal of customers. The front fascia will be made to look much bolder with a 4-slot grille which will be complemented by projector LED headlamps. Even the tail lamps will get the LED treatment. Also, the car will come sat on 18-inch or 20-inch wheels depending on the variant.
Engine & Transmission
The biggest piece of information you ought to know is that the LC300 will come powered by two engine options. A 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine that will be capable of making 409bhp & 649Nm of torque and a 3.3-litre V6 diesel engine that will churn out 302bhp and 700Nm of torque. The torque figures are really massive. Also, the SUV will come with a 10-speed automatic gearbox this time.
Platform
The new-gen LC300 will now be based on the body-on-frame version of the TNGA platform, TNGA-F. Toyota has shifted to the TNGA platform for its new cars lately. The platform has helped to enhance the dimensions and simultaneously reduce the weight of the SUV.
Dimensions & Variants
The LC300 will be 4950mm long, 1980mm wide & 1945mm tall when opted with the GX-R variant. It will be 4965mm long, 1990mm wide & 1945mm tall in its GR-S variant. Finally, the car will be 4985mm long, 1980mm wide & 1945mm tall in its top-of-the-line ZX variant. The wheelbase will be kept common at 2850mm for all the variants. The same wheelbase was made available on the previous-gen vehicle as well. Also, the front overhand will be 923mm with the rear one being 1177mm long. The ground clearance, departure angle & approach angle will be carried from the previous generation vehicle.
Features
The car will come loaded with features like a floating touchscreen infotainment system, powered tailgate, terrain modes, multi-zone climate control, a 360-degree camera, an underbody camera, a semi-digital instrument cluster, heated & ventilated seats and ambient lighting. The most interesting feature of all might be the availability of a fingerprint scanner using which the driver would be able to start the car. This would be a big step towards enhancing safety. Also, the Land Cruiser will come with the brand’s Kinetic Dynamic Suspension Setup which will make use of hydraulics for enhanced ride quality.
Launch
The LC300 is expected to be unveiled by May-end this year. However, we cannot confirm if the company will surely launch it by the aforementioned time frame. We have to wait and see what Toyota finally decides.
