Indian car buying customers value their money’s worth in terms of the size of the car. So if you offer a big SUV looking vehicle at a higher price there s a higher chance of it being appreciated over small cars with performance engines costing the same amount. This is why manufacturers hesitate to offer hot hatches in India. Here are 5 such hot hatches which we don’t get in India.
Toyota GR Yaris
The Yaris that we get in India is a sedan but internationally there is a hatchback version of the car. The GR is the hot hatch variant of the Yaris hatchback. Like most of the affordable hot hatches in this list, this also features a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine. This is one of the most powerful 3 cylinder engines out there. This car makes 256 bhp of power and 266 Nm of torque. It has a top speed of 230 km/h. All this power is put down to the road using a clever all-wheel-drive system that can change the power ratio to each wheel to maximise traction.
Honda Civic Type R
Honda Civic was discontinued in India recently and so there is no chance we are seeing the Type R in India. Although the Civic was a sedan the Type R is considered among hot hatches because of its change in design and powerful engine. This car has a 2.0-litre, 16-valve, Direct Injection, turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. This makes about 300 bhp and 295 Nm of torque. This car competes with the Mercedes A35 AMG.
Mercedes A 45 S AMG
This car comes with a 2.0-litre 4 cylinder turbocharged engine. It makes 421 bhp of power and 500 Nm of torque. Being a Mercedes, the interior is also quite plush and comfortable. There is loads of space. They are also offered with Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R MO1 spec tyres. With 4MATIC the shuffling and transfer of power is great too.
VW Golf GTI
The VW Golf is one of those hot hatches which has been eagerly awaited by Indian car enthusiasts for gears. The Golf GTI has a 2.0-litre engine which makes 228bhp and 258 Nm of torque. This car could replace the Polo GTI which was earlier available in India.
Hyundai i20 N
In India, we get the Hyundai i20 and there are rumors of the N-line to come soon. The Hyundai i20 N is a performance variant and the N-line that is supposed to come to India will share only the design with it. It gets a 1.6-litre turbocharged engine making about 201 bhp of power. It gets a performance braking system and the also has a limited-slip differential. This car competes with the Ford Focus ST and VW Golf GTI in the European markets.
