As more test mules of Mahindra’s micro-SUV pound the roads in preparation to the launch, they are offering increased opportunities to snap up their details. Said to compete with the likes of Hyundai’s i20 and the Fiat Avventura, the Mahindra S101 nee XUV100, this time has been snapped up in what appears to be the base variant of the car.

A ‘Greige’ colour scheme which is similar to the one found in the Nissan Micra, dominates the inside trim. The dashboard design is a break from the usual Mahindra fare found on the current lot of vehicles in the manufacturer’s lineup. The steering wheel is all new and sports a three-spoke design. It look chunky in the snap, though we’ll reserve comment till we have it in our hands. The dashboard knobs are laid out in a vertical arrangement. Mahindra are also choosing to go with a dashboard mounted lever in a bid to maximize space. While, the gear lever here indicates a manual transmission, units sporting an Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) option (with inputs from specialty firm – Ricardo) too have been seen around.

The S101 or the XUV100 as it is likely to be called, is more of a crossover than an SUV. It will be powered by 1.2 litre, three-cylinder engines in both, diesel & petrol avatar. They have been developed in close conjunction with Ssangyong, though in this case, the said engines shall be used exclusively by Mahindra.
