Toyota Fortuner has been the number one car in its segment for so many years now. This year, this iconic product was revamped with a facelift. Along with the regular facelift, the brand also launched the Fortuner Legender, a special edition of the Fortuner. This car looks much more premium than the regular one. Another car, the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine falls in the price bracket of the Legender. Although, both the cars belong to different categories of vehicles, due to them coming close in terms of pricing, we have decided to put them against each other. Dimensions

The Toyota Fortuner Legender is 4795mm long, 1855 mm wide and 1835mm tall. The car gets a ground clearance of 225mm. The Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine, on the other hand, is 4549mm long, 1796mm wide and 1446mm tall. The Fortuner Legender and the Mercedes A-Class get a wheelbase of 2745mm and 2729mm respectively.

Features

The Legender offers features like a rear USB charging port, wireless charging, auto-dimming ORVM, ambient lighting, ventilated seats, kick-sensor for power back door, dual-zone climate control, driving modes, cruise control and connected car technology. On the safety front, the SUV comes with 7 airbags, vehicle stability control, ABS with EBD and an anti-theft alarm with a glass break sensor. The A-Class comes loaded with features like MBUX, ambient lighting, voice control system, Dynamic Select drive modes, wireless charging, seats with memory function, a panoramic sunroof, fully digital instrument cluster and many others. On the safety front, the car gets active brake assist, PRE-SAFE safety systems and live tracking information as some of the key features.

Engine & Transmission

The Toyota Fortuner Legender gets a 2.8-litre diesel engine mated to a 6-speed torque converter automatic which is capable of producing 201bhp and 500Nm of torque. The Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine comes powered by a 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine that makes 161bhp and 250Nm of torque, a 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine that makes 300bhp and 400Nm of torque and a 2.0-litre diesel engine that makes 147bhp and 320Nm of torque. All these engines come mated to DCT gearboxes.

Legender vs A-Class Pricing

The Legender comes at Rs 46.28 Lakhs (on-road Mumbai). The A-Class, on the other hand, starts at Rs 47.35 Lakhs and goes up to Rs 66.85 Lakhs (on-road Mumbai) for the AMG version. The diesel variant comes at Rs 49.59 Lakhs (on-road Mumbai).

Should you buy the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine over Toyota Fortuner Legender?

If your regular commuting route involves a lot of bad patches that you cannot avoid and you want a powerful diesel engine, you should definitely go for the Toyota Fortuner as it is a tall car and has better ground clearance than the Mercedes. The car also gets comfortable interiors and convenience features that result in a hassle-free overall experience. However, if you do not have the aforementioned issue and are looking for a car that offers premium cabin comfort and features like a panoramic sunroof, belongs to a luxury brand and is a sedan, you should go for the Mercedes A-Class. Also, the A-Class gets a much powerful AMG variant as well if you want a more powerful car with better handling. It will cost more but you will have a proper AMG.
