New Skoda Rapid SPOTTED – Bigger and better?
The Skoda Rapid has been the front runner in the company line-up when it comes to sales and adding volumes. Skoda sometime ago also got the Rider nd Rider Plus variant to make sure that the car becomes more competitive. And it was a good strategy. But now the aim with the new Rapid is to target the Honda City even more squarely. So what can we spot with this car here? Let’s discuss now.
New Skoda Rapid Design,, Specifications and Dimensions
The new Skoda Rapid shown in the spy shots here is based on the MQB AO IN platform. The car is going to be longer than the current Rapid and will bring the size closer to the new Honda City. The car spotted by our reader from the front also gets the new Skoda grille, LED lights and a new bumper. Overall the car will resemble the design language and have the same shape from the side as the Volkswagen Vitrus. The rear of the car does look good top. It as we can see in the image below – gets a new LED taillamps, a revised boot, new bumper and a sharkfin antenna. Also seen here will be new diamond cut alloy wheels. When it comes to dimensions, the new Skoda Rapid will be wider, it will have a wheelbase of 2651mm which is more than the City and bootspace will increase too with more than 520 litres. The overall length of the car will be closer to the Honda City now.
Engine options will include the 1.0-litre TSI petrol engine and a more powerful 1.5-litre TSI petrol engine. The smaller engine will come with a six-speed manual and six-speed torque converter. The bigger 1.5-litre, 150bhp motor will get a six-speed manual and a DSG gearbox.
New Skoda Rapid features and interior
The new Skoda Rapid is expected to be loaded with features. The car will get a new touchscreen, mostly shared with the Kushaq SUV. The car will get wireless charging, revised seats and dashboard upholstery. It will also get a button for start stop and a better dashboard design. Other than that there could be some things that the manufacturer could bring as a segment firsts.
Price and Launch
Pricing for the Rapid will go up with an increase in its size and features. We also think the name of this car could change. Will Skoda keep the old Rapid on sale with the new sedan? Will they do the same thing Honda did when the new City came? Keep the old City on sale. The pricing for the new car could start from Rs 8 to Rs 9 lakhs and go upto Rs 15 lakhs. The brand is yet to comment more on this car for now.
