Maruti XL6 vs Hyundai i20? You might think what a weird comparison is this? Well, both these vehicles cost up to Rs 14 lakhs and this puts forth the question should you buy a bigger vehicle or something small that makes higher value for money? All prices mentioned below are on-road Mumbai.
The Hyundai i20 here takes the win. It gets a lot of features that you can not get on any Maruti. There is a connected car tech – Blue Link. It gets wireless phone charging, air purifier, cooled glove box and voice commands. From the drivers, POV one can see the 10.25-inch infotainment system which has amazing support of Bose sound system. In terms of safety too, 6 airbags are on offer and so is vehicle stability program and hill assist.
On the XL6 you get SmartPlay Studio for smartphone connectivity. Along with that, there is cruise control and automatic headlamps on offer. There are all-black interiors and the door pads get stone and silver accents. On the safety aspect, the car gets ABS, 2 front airbags, hill hold, ESP and ISOFIX child seat anchors.
The Maruti XL6 comes with a single-engine option which is also seen on the Ertiga. There are 2 gearboxes and the automatic one is a torque converter. The Hyundai i20 lets you choose from 3 engine options. You also get 4 gearbox options namely MT, IVT DCT and iMT. The prices also vary according to dual-tone options.
We suggest that the Hyundai i20 is for those who want to get a specific engine option and gearbox or for those who want a diesel. There are chances that the Maruti XL6 and Ertiga will come with a diesel engine soon but till then we have just 4 petrol variants to choose from.
In terms of space, the Maruti XL6 has a win here. It is a 6 seater MPV and gets captain seats in the second row. It also gets better driving POV as you sit a bit high up and the visibility is better. The boot of the i20 is big if you compare it with all the 6 seats up on the XL6 but if you are not going to use those 2 last seats then the MPV has much bigger boot space.
The price and variant structure is vast here on the Hyundai i20 whereas the Maruti Xl6 comes in 2 variants and 2 gearbox options. Also, the prices start at Rs 11.63 lakh for the base model manual variant which coincides with the Asta 1.2 dual tone of the Hyundai i20. Now the top model of the XL6 does up to Rs 13.92 lakh which is where you should be thinking of buying the Hyundai i20 which too comes at Rs 13.39 lakh.
We would like to say that the Hyundai i20 would be for someone who is going to be in the driver seat and use the car himself most of the time. If you are looking at a driver drove car and you want to enjoy the rear seat then the Maruti XL6 makes sense.
