Should you buy Tata Harrier over Hyundai Elantra?
The customers in India are currently leaning towards SUVs more than any other segment present. Every OEM is trying to launch at least one car in every SUV segment possible, be it the compact SUVs, the micro SUVs or the 7-seater SUVs. Also, customers have started ignoring the D-segment sedans as of now. To make things clear, Tata sold 2284 units of the Harrier in March 2021, whereas Hyundai sold 53 units of the Elantra in the same month. So, in today’s article, we will analyse whether you should buy a Tata Harrier over a Hyundai Elantra.
Dimensions
The Tata Harrier is 4598mm long, 1706mm tall and 1894mm wide with a ground clearance of 205mm. It has a wheelbase of 2741mm. The Hyundai Elantra on the other hand is 4620mm long, 1800mm wide and 1465mm tall. This sedan has a wheelbase of 2700mm. As evident from the dimensions, the Harrier is taller and wider when compared to the Elantra.
Tata Harrier vs Hyundai Elantra Engine
The Tata Harrier is powered by a 2.0-litre Kryotec Turbocharged diesel engine that is capable of producing 168bhp and 350Nm of torque. This engine comes mated to a manual gearbox along with an automatic torque converter unit. The Elantra, on the other hand, comes powered by a 2.0-litre Nu petrol engine that is capable of making 150bhp and 192Nm of torque. It also gets a 1.5-litre U2 diesel engine that makes 113bhp and 250Nm of torque. Both these unit comes mated to manual as well as torque converter units. The diesel engine on the Elantra produces less power and torque when compared to the Harrier’s Kryotec engine.
Cabin comfort & Boot space
Tata products are known for their cabin comfort and ride quality due to the excellent suspension setup. Also, being an SUV, the Harrier can take up any terrain, which the Elantra would find difficult to go over. The Hyundai Elantra, being a sedan provides a boot space of 458-litres whereas the Harrier provides a boot space of 425-litres.
Features
Harrier comes loaded with features like a panoramic sunroof, a floating touchscreen infotainment system, a premium sound system with amplifier, 14 ESP modes and iRA connected car tech to name some. The Elantra on the other hand gets features like ventilated front seats, electric sunroof, smart trunk system, dual-zone AC, premium sound system and drive modes to name some.
Tata Harrier vs Hyundai Elantra Pricing
The Tata Harrier starts at Rs 17.18 Lakhs (on-road Mumbai) with the top variant coming at Rs 25.14 Lakhs (on-road Mumbai). The Elantra on the other hand starts at Rs 21.27 Lakhs (on-road Mumbai) and goes up to Rs 25.52 Lakhs (on-road Mumbai).
Should you buy the Harrier over the Elantra?
If you are someone that is looking for a car with a bigger road presence, punchier engine and better cabin comfort & ride quality, you should definitely go for the Tata Harrier. Also, the Tata Harrier, as evident from the pricing, comes cheap compared to the Hyundai Elantra. However, if you wish to go for a car that could provide some extra convenience features like ventilated seats, dual-zone AC and a car with amazing design you should check out the Elantra.

I think we are entirely skipping/missing the angle of drive from the driver perspective. Not sure if Harrier can be considered a drivers vehicle in terms of performance even if we disregard the the body roll and engine noise ?
