The SUV segments have been growing rapidly in the country, whether it be compact SUVs, micro SUVs or 7-seater SUVs. Manufacturers have understood this and have been trying to launch as many varied types of SUVs as possible. For instance, compact SUVs gained traction soon after cars like Tata Nexon and Maruti Vitara Brezza entered the market. OEMs soon followed and started bringing their own compact SUVs to the market. Hyundai and Tata have already been developing their own micro SUVs that could launch any time soon. Also, 7-seater SUVs have also gained traction recently with brands like Hyundai expected to launch its Alcazar in the very near future. With most of the OEMs focusing on SUVs, should Ford also follow the same route for India? We will exactly look at this in this article.
What do Ford’s March sales numbers reveal?
Ford, in its current lineup, has five cars viz. EcoSport, the Endeavour, the Freestyle, the Figo and the Aspire. Looking at the previous month’s sales, we realize that the combined sales of Ford Freestyle, Ford Figo and Ford Aspire were 1237 units. On the other hand, the EcoSport and the Endeavour single-handedly did 5487 and 1024 sales respectively. This clearly reflects that Ford customers are keener on buying SUVs rather than its hatchbacks and sedan.
What SUVs from Ford do we expect to see here?
