Are you planning to buy a premium hatchback? If yes, you might have thought of the Tata Altroz. This car would be your first or mostly second car that you have bought. So what if we say – WAIT, there could be something exciting coming to the market from Tata themselves which will be heavily based, inspired and will share features and parts with the Altroz. Yes, the Tata HBX. The mini SUV, that has been spotted by us multiple times. It’s going to be based on the new ALFA architecture that also underpins the Altroz and will have a lot of similar traits too. So lets talk about should Altroz buyers wait for the Tata HBX?

SUV vs Hatchback

Now the Altroz is a great car with it’s solid attributes. These include ride quality, great handling, safety and space. On the features front too, the car has quite a few useful tricks up it’s sleeve – like iRA and 90-degree opening doors. The three engine options – two petrol and one diesel also make for a good choice to select for customers. The only thing lacking here for the Altroz is the missing automatic gearbox. And alternatives like the Hyundai i20, Maruti Glanza and even the Honda Jazz offer one.

The Tata HBX will have these core attributes from the Altroz in when it comes. Specs like the length, wheelbase and bootspace are not out yet. But from the spy shots we can speculate that this will be a wider and taller car. Length wise it should be similar to the Altroz. There will mostly be the two petrol engines on offer and we could expect Tata to give this car a automatic in the form of a AMT and also offer the wet clutch DCT they have been working on. In terms of features the Tata HBX has been spotted from the inside by us recently and you can check out the interior.

Tata HBX – Should you wait?

If you are not in a hurry. Yes, you should wait for this car. The Tata HBX will be coming this year and one could have alternate to buying a hatchback. While this might not be as big as a Nexon, the HBX will have a higher ground clearance, better road presence, taller stance and increased visibility from the drivers point of view. The car’s pricing will from around Rs 5.5 lakhs to Rs 11 lakhs (on-road) mostly. This will make it a good consideration when shopping for a budget hatchback. The Tata HBX will compete with cars like the Ford Freestyle, Honda WRV and the Mahindra KUV100.
