Jeep has improved its line-up in the country this year. The brand launched the heavily updated Compass at the start of this year. The company also launched its iconic off-roader, the Wrangler in the country last month. Now, the talk of the town is that the brand is planning to bring a 7-seater that will be based on the lines of the Compass. Many online portals have been using the name ‘Commander’ to address it, however, the official name is yet to be confirmed. The upcoming car is expected to take on an iconic 7-seater in the country, the Toyota Fortuner. In this article, we will discuss this Jeep Fortuner competition and how it could pose a threat to the Fortuner.

As already mentioned above, the 7-seater is mostly expected to follow a design language similar to the Compass. We might get to see similar headlights and body panels. Also, the upgrades from the new Compass are expected with the bigger car as well, along with some added elements in order to enhance the premium factor.

Platform & Engine

The Jeep Fortuner competition will be based on the same platform that underpins the new Compass. Although most of the design lines will be borrowed from the Compass, however, the overhang will be increased in order to accommodate the extra 3rd-row passenger seats. Also, the overhang will become upright. The 7-seater from Jeep is expected to be powered by a 2.0-litre MULTIJET 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine. The same engine comes with the Compass as well. The engine is however expected to be re-tuned to produce more power.

The updates given to the interior of the Jeep Compass were the major talking point from the latest revision. The updated interiors from the Compass are expected to be carried forward to the 7-seater as well. A panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats with cooling function and a bigger touchscreen infotainment system with U-Connect are expected to be on offer. The features will further be enhanced in order to make the 7-seater much more luxurious than the Compass 5-seater.
