MG saw huge success with its first EV for the country, the ZS EV. The car delivered great range figures long with providing maximum value-for-money in terms of features and overall product value. The brand has been planning a gasoline counterpart for the EV for quite some time now. The gasoline-powered car has been given the name ‘Astor’. Recently, one of our readers, Mr Raj K Singh, has spotted the MG Astor undergoing testing. By the looks of it, we expect it to be the top variant of the product. In this article, we will discuss the upcoming MG Astor spy shots and see what information can be derived from them. Let’s go.

Upcoming Mahindra Scorpio – Should Creta buyers wait?

What are the spy shots of the exterior revealing?

The first thing that catches our glimpse is that the body panels, as well as the lines that flow through the side of the car, are exactly the same when compared with the ZS EV. The overall design of the MG Astor resembles its electric counterpart. However, when looked closely, the rear tail lamps reveal that the setup has been changed. This means that, although, the Astor might be the ZS EV’s gasoline counterpart, however, some differences have been kept in order to give the Astor its uniqueness.

Also, the alloy wheels of the upcoming MG are now properly revealed. The alloy wheels look stunning and have been kept unique for the Astor. Also, the top variant sits on 17-inch GOODYEAR Assurance Triplemax 2 wheels with a 215/55 profile. Also, the rear wheels get disc brakes as well. When looked closely, the rear disk brakes get red brake callipers, hinting at a sports variant of the car.

What about the interiors?

Coming to the interiors, the interiors have received subtle changes for some elements whereas some elements have been directly borrowed from the ZS EV. The touchscreen infotainment setup on the Astor, for instance, will be a floating unit when compared to the ZS EV’s integrated unit. Also, the centre console buttons on the Astor are new. The sliding central storage compartment has now been replaced with simple cup holders. A USB charging port can also be seen under the infotainment controls. Wireless charging and a 12V socket are also expected. Coming to the similarities, the dashboard design is similar to that of the ZS EV.

The seating and upholstery are also similar. The multi-function steering wheel has also been directly borrowed from the ZS EV. Although the instrument cluster outline looks similar, however, we have to wait and see whether it will be a fully digital unit. The MG Astor will get an electronic parking brake and auto-hold. Also, the spy shots reveal the presence of traction control and hill descent control. Tweeters are also visible on the A-pillar. For the 2nd-row, it can be seen that all three seat belts will be 3-point seat belts. The major difference that can be observed is that all three passengers will get adjustable headrests. Ventilated front seats and ambient lights are expected on the Astor.
