2016 promises to be an important year for Volvo India. In a bid to expand its brand presence, the Swedish car manufacturer is gearing up to launch seven new cars in India next year. What’s more, next year will also mark the entry of their performance division, Polestar in the country. Here’s a lowdown of all that is in store for the fans:

Volvo S90:

The new flagship, Volvo’s S90 is the replacement for its aging predecessor, the S80 sedan. Designed along the lines of Volvo’s concept coupe, the S90 will sport signature styling elements such as the distinctive ‘Thor’s hammer’ daylight running lamps, a receding roof-line and striking, rectangular shaped grille up-front. Expect the car to be fully loaded in production guise, with many a feature being shared with their flagship SUV, the XC90.

Volvo XC90 ‘Excellence’:

A luxurious take on the well-appointed Volvo XC90, the ‘Excellence’ variant will be a four-seater mansion on wheels. So, expect to see plenty of opulent pampering for the passengers, including those in the rear seat. Massage functions, cooling vents, significantly increased cabin space for the occupants, than in the regular, seven-seater version, will be standard.

Volvo XC90 R-Design:

On the other side of the Scandinavian fence will be the Volvo XC90 R-Design. Having given the R-Design treatment to the S60 & the XC60 last year, 2016 promises to be the flagship SUV, XC90’s turn. The R-Design treatment promises a sporty take on the regular, luxury SUV. As part of the package, the XC90 R-Design will get revised bumpers fore and aft. Larger alloys in exclusive styles along with special accents too will be part of the package.

Volvo V60 Polestar:

Volvo will introduce their performance division, Polestar in India with the launch of the V60 Polestar sedan. Tuned for performance, it will go up against the likes of BMW’s M series and Mercedes’ AMG badged offerings. Apart from the necessary styling bits, the S60 Polestar will get a 3.0 litre straight-six turbo under the hood with 345 bhp on tap.

Volvo S60 Cross-Country:

We’re currently in the middle of a crossover surge, but manufacturers have so far been focused on hatchback based crossovers. With the S60 Cross-Country, Volvo will mark the opening of a new initiative in its class, that of a crossover sedan. Expect to see the car riding higher than its ‘regular’ sibling, together with suitable exterior elements such as revised wheel arches, cladding along the side and plastic wheel trim, etc.

Volvo V40 face lift:

Volvo have given their V40 hatch a mid-life facelift and this version shall be coming to our shores early next year. Suitably revised from the inside-out, it is said that the face-lifted V40 will come with a touch-screen infotainment system along with a host of interior appointments.

If the V40 face-lift is coming, can the Cross-Country cousin be far behind? Volvo will be bringing in the V40 Cross-Country next year. A face-lifted version, expect to see revisions to the bumpers, Thor’s Hammer LED DRL’s making an appearance on the outside, together with suitably revised interiors.
