New Ford EcoSport coming next year?
Ford EcoSport is the product that established the compact SUV segment in the country. Even after all these years, the EcoSport is going strong. However, it has been a long since the car received a generation change. With Ford now moving forward independently in the country, we expect to see the EcoSport get a generation change in the coming time. In this article, we will discuss the next-gen Ford EcoSport and what we expect of it.
Next-gen Ford EcoSport Design
The next-generation Ford EcoSport will come with a completely new design. The headlamps and tail-lamps will be changed and will be much more modern-looking and sharp. The interior will also see major changes coming. The dashboard design and layout will change and is expected to follow a much modern flow to complement the new exterior design.
Platform & Powertrain
The EcoSport that is currently being sold in the country is based on Ford’s B2E platform. The car has not seen a generation change in almost a decade now. The new one is expected to be based on the C2 platform. Coming to the powertrains, the next-gen EcoSport is expected to be powered by the same powertrain that the current EcoSport gets. The petrol unit is a 1.5-litre 3-cylinder naturally aspirated engine that is capable of producing 121bhp and 150Nm of torque. The diesel engine is a 1.5-litre, 4-cylinder unit that produces 99bhp and 215Nm of torque. The engines with the next-generation will however be re-tuned to make more power.
Features
The new Ford EcoSport is expected to come with features that the current generation car misses. Digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay and a bigger touchscreen are expected on the new one. Also, the latest generation of the brand’s SYNC (in-vehicle communication and entertainment system) will also be expected with the next-gen car.
What is currently happening with Ford?
Ford and Mahindra, at the beginning of this year, announced the end of their JV, however, there were renegotiations going on for some time about engine sharing and helping Ford in manufacturing via contractual manufacturing with Mahindra. However, last month, the JV had to be cancelled. Ford is now planning its separate strategy for the country. The company will use its own engine and platforms from the Ford Global range for its future products in India.
What are Ford’s future plans?
With the plan of now independently moving forward, Ford is planning to get the Mustang Mach-E, the brand’s first full-electric SUV. Moreover, the brand is also expected to bring the Ford Territory this year. Also, we expect to see more foreign products from the brand coming to India.
