At the beginning of this year, Mahindra and Ford announced the end of their joint venture but kept talks about engine sharing and helping Ford in manufacturing. But last month that too has been cancelled. Mahindra is on its own now, making its own SUVs and developing even electric cars. So what does that mean for Ford? Well, Ford is not going to take any support from Mahindra and will use its own engine and platforms from the Ford Global range for its future products in India.

With that said, according to one leading publication – Ford has asked its component makers to delay work on the two upcoming projects BX744 and BX772 till August 2021, as it finalizes the new powertrains within the Ford world. BX744 being the sub-four meter SUV and the BX772 being the C-segment, Creta competition product. Today let’s discuss the Ford Creta competition C-segment SUV.

Ford Creta Competition SUV – What will it be?

Ford Territory Ford Creta competition Earlier this product was going to be based on the upcoming XUV500. Now Ford will use up to $800 million originally allocated for the proposed JV for the independent operations. This includes maximizing exports and also focusing on emerging markets. So what will the car be – mostly we think the Ford Territory or a product based on its platform could make it here. Everything is still under evaluation. The Ford Territory comes with a 1.5-litre EcoBoost turbocharged petrol engine, which is capable of producing 143bhp and torque of 225Nm
Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a CVT (Continuously Variable Transmission).

When it comes to features – from what is available abroad – the car will be fully loaded to take on the Creta in every aspect. In terms of size too. But in terms of size, the Ford Territory with 4,580mm in length, 1,936mm in width, 1,674mm in height, a wheelbase of 2,716mm and a ground clearance of 180mm – it comes close to the size of the Tata Harrier and Jeep Compass.

Ford future plans

With the aim of going independently forward, Ford is planning to get the Mustang Mach-E, the technology which Mahindra will now miss out on. The EcoSport will get a full new-gen update next year too. And we will see refreshes of other models in the line-up soon. So Ford India’s independent chapter is looking very promising.
