Maruti Jimny long-wheelbase SPOTTED!
Maruti’s modern off-roader, the Jimny is touted for a launch in the country sometime this year. The foreign markets already have the Jimny, however, the Jimny has not been yet launched in India. Recently, a long-wheelbase version of the Jimny was spotted with 3-doors in Europe. In this article, we will discuss the Maruti Jimny long-wheelbase and what it means for India.
What does the LWB version on the test mean?
The test mule of the Maruti Jimny looks similar to the regular Jimny; the only change is in the length of the car. The Jimny, which is currently on offer in the foreign market, is not comfortable for the 2nd-row passengers. With the long wheelbase on testing, the foreign markets might get the Jimny with some extra space.
Moreover, if the long-wheelbase Jimny is being planned, Suzuki might even fit a 5-door version on the same wheelbase, adding practicality for the users. Moreover, an extra variant will also help Maruti draw in some extra numbers.
Also, with the long wheelbase, Suzuki could be looking to use the Jimny as a commercial vehicle in the foreign markets.
Will it come to India?
The Indian version of the Jimny is mostly expected to be the 5-door version, based on the above mentioned long wheelbase. Bringing the 5-door version for the Indian customers will make more sense, as Maruti would be driven to deliver a value-for-money product, similar to all its other offerings.
Also, India might get to see the Jimny in the commercial avatar as well. The same product might be used to cater to different needs, similar to Maruti’s other offerings like the Eeco and the Super.
What will power the Jimny?
The Jimny is expected to get the 1.5-litre K15 Petrol engine which cars like the Ertiga , Ciaz and some others get. The power figures are expected to be increased by some extra numbers for the petrol engine since the Jimny will be an off-roading focused product. We are however not sure if Maruti would bring a diesel engine for the Jimny.
The same setup is mostly expected on the Maruti Jimny long-wheelbase.
