Maruti Suzuki India’s line-up is filled with cars that are hatchbacks, sedans and SUVs and are selling in great numbers. Still, Maruti Suzuki lacks a proper off-roader in its lineup. However, regular spy shots of an off-roader, that is already on sale in the foreign markets, the Jimny, have surfaced time and again. The Jimny will mostly be launched this year but there might be some delays in the overall timeline. In this article, we will discuss the Maruti Suzuki Jimny and the reason behind its delay.

New Hyundai Venue – What to expect?

Design

Maruti Jimny

The Maruti Jimny has some design elements similar to the iconic Gypsy, like the spare wheel attached to the rear, the round headlights and horizontal tail-lamps placed on the bumper. The square quarter-glass on the Jimny also resembles the square-shaped slider window that the Gypsy had.

We are not sure if the 3-door version will be made available here or not. But the brand could bring the 5-door version Jimny, which makes more sense for the Indian customers’ requirements.

Features

The Jimny is expected to get a multi-function steering wheel, a touchscreen infotainment system, ABS with EBD, ESP, seatbelt reminder, dual airbags and speed-sensitive door-locks on the feature front.

Engine

The engine on the Jimny is expected to be the same 1.5-litre K15 Petrol engine that cars like the Ertiga and Ciaz get. Power figures are however expected to be buffed by some figures since the Jimny is an off-roading focused product. Jimny is offered with a petrol engine abroad, so, we are not sure if a diesel engine would be brought to the Jimny.

Why the delay?

Maruti Jimny AllGrip

Maruti started exporting the Jimny to foreign countries sometime back, so we expect to see the one for India coming sometime this year. However, the timeline might have to be extended. And the main reason behind it is the shortage of semi-conductors.

The semi-conductors are used in various electronic components of a car. The shortage was mainly due to industrial accidents occurring at factories in Japan and also due to the lack of shipping containers in places like China and Taiwan to export the semi-conductors.

Next-gen Tata Nexon – What could change?

Semi-conductors are not just limited to cars but are also used in phones, laptops and other electronic devices. This makes the demand high for these components. So that could be the reason for pushing Maruti Suzuki Jimny production even further. The production could start smoothly once the supply of components becomes uniform.
