Mandatory application?

Highway Saathi app

The CEO of Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA), Dr Arun Vir Singh, made it mandatory for passengers to use a mobile application called the ‘Highway Saathi’ when using the Yamuna Expressway. The app has been developed keeping in mind the various necessities and requirements which the passengers might need when they commute via the expressway. Assistances like medical aid, fuel station locations, mechanics and other safety-related assistances have been provided via the app. All these facilities will be instantly available with the app.

The app also informs other travellers about roadblocks, accidents, nearby police stations, ambulance availability and the traffic conditions ahead. The travellers can also report accidents through the app and the nearest police station will be informed regarding the same. The police can then provide assistance as soon as possible.

The commuters will not be allowed to enter the Expressway at either end if they do not have the app installed. The ‘Highway Saathi’ app has been made mandatory from 15th February 2021. The app is however only available on the Google Play Store.

Why was the application developed?

Car PIle up on Yamuna Expressway

The Yamuna Expressway is notoriously known for many accidents. Every year, many people either lose their lives or get involved in fatal crashes on this stretch. The main faults behind these unfortunate events are over-speeding cars, tyre bursts and in some cases, the design of the Yamuna expressway.

With the Highway Saathi app, commuters will be able to report accidents, ultimately lowering the number and chances of fatality and thus improving the safety aspect of the stretch. When we last checked, the app was not available on the Play Store officially. However, multiple sites which provide APK links have made the app available.
