There have been recent rumors of Citroen to bring a Sedan in the Indian market. We do not know if these are true or false but lets get cleared if Sedans have a future or not? The Citroen Sedan may or may not come to the Indian market and that is completely companies decision but here are 5 key points that we feel that the company should consider before bringing the Citroen Honda City Rival

If Citroen brings a Honda City Rival in the Indian market it will have to price it between Rs 12 to 17 lakhs. The Citroen C5 Aircross is expected to be priced around Rs 30 lakhs. They could actually position their sedan at Rs 20 lakhs but that too would make it expensive than the current Sedan market. Also the volumes in which sedans are being sold are dropping and this Citroen Honda City rival will not be a the volume grosser car that the company wants to bring in India.
SUV over Sedan
There is an evident market shift towards SUVs in the Indian market. The reasons are simple. Indian want value for money and this means that there have to least amount of things that are a miss in a car. The simple way to give a lot of features in a car is to increase space. Sedan do get boot space but the low visual appearance and the elegant look don’t take fancy on Indian customers.
SUV on other hand looks big. The proportions of the SUV might resemble that of a buffed hatch which is a good thing as a lot of buyers who are looking at SUVs are people who already own a hatch. Moving to a sedan for them becomes a task as they are a bit different in terms of driving dynamics.
Road presence (Above All)
Sedans are wide and big but the road presence if compared with a SUV seems less intimidating. The tall seat height makes driving in traffic easy and the larger suspension helps to tackle Indian roads.
Ambassador Name
Citroen can use the Ambassador name but the question that arises is that could it live up to that glory? If the car is not a hit then using the legendary name of ambassador might just be unfruitful. Also the Ambassador name is considered very homely and the Citroen brand seems a bit foreign for Indian customers now. The emotion of using the Ambassador name might trigger opposite reaction in the mind of people.
Lastly we would like to say that Citroen might not introduce a sedan in the Indian Market so soon. The sales of the C5 Aircross will give us some more insight on how the company is going to operate on Indian soil. Apart from this Citroen Honda City rival there might also be a smaller SUV/ crossover that the company might bring in India. This might be the game changer if priced as a affordable entry point in the brand.
