The New Mahindra Scorpio in its new-generation avatar is expected to come soon. The car has been spotted testing in different locations and environments multiple times. The car should have come this month or in the summer but we expect some delays. The biggest reason being the shortage of semi-conductors in the country which are hampering manufacturing. We also saw this year Mahindra release the current Scorpio’s S3 plus variant. Maybe Mahindra plans to sell the current car with the new-gen car. Mahindra is also set too bring the XUV500 in a whole new generation avatar. Today lets discuss what we can see the car that has been spotted here.

New Mahindra Scorpio

Rear disc brakes

The Mahindra Scorpio has like many old school SUVs in India come with a ladder on frame setup with rear wheel drive. The car would also get drum brakes at the rear. Now however, the new upcoming car will as spotted here gets rear disc brakes. This will overall aid in making the vehicle safer and also better the driving and feedback of the the car. The Scorpio is going to be based on the Mahindra Thar platform but unlike the Thar, we expect this car to get independent suspension at the rear also to add comfort.

New Mahindra Scorpio

The new Scorpio will get a 4×4 transfer case and gearbox too. The car will get options of a 2.2-litre engine and a 2.0-litre engine (petrol and diesel) Gearbox options will include a speed manual and automatic. We expect the same power figures as the Thar on the new Scorpio.

Design Details

The car we see here shows interesting design cues. The Scorpio at the rear gets a traditional side swinging tailgate, the taillights are new and sort of remined one of the Honda CRV and Volvo XC90. The Scorpio visually looks bigger and wider than before. It will be interesting to see the dimensions where we can see how much the car has grown in size. The design of the new Scorpio will be more aggressive and modern. We can see new dual beam LED projector headlamps. The car is also sporting 245/65 R17-inch tyres. The Mahindra Thar gets 18-inch tyres just for reference. The window line is reminiscent of the old car. We can also see here roof rails on the car. The grille is all-new and the rear bumper looks a bit more aggressive.

New Mahindra Scorpio

Keeping with Mahindra’s recent reputation with safety with all their cars, we can expect the Scorpio is being developed with a lot of safety parameters when it comes to exterior design, crumple zones and pedestrian safety. We expect the car to get front parking sensors, TPMS and four airbags as standard.

Interior and features

The car seen here does not let us have a glimpse at what is going to be available on the inside. But from what we understand and have seen in the previous spyshots – the Scorpio will now have a whole new interior. The center console will be completely changed in the car. The bigger touchscreen which is expected to be over 8.0-inches will sit on the top and will house Android Auto, Apple Carplay, possible front and rear parking camera display and BlueSense Plus (Mahindra Connected Car tech). Other than that we can say much. Many bits and pieces will be shared between this car and the Mahindra Thar. Differentiating from the Thar, the new Mahindra Scorpio will get a sunroof and engine push start stop.
