Amazon, in September of 2019 had undertaken the Climate Pledge in which it invited other companies also to commit to non-zero carbon emissions by 2040. The brand had committed globally to add 1,00,000 EVs in its delivery fleet by 2030. To make this a reality, the brand placed an order for 1,00,000 EVs from Rivian in 2019 itself.

The brand has started using the Rivian EVs for delivery in Los Angeles for some time now and is planning to expand its testing to 15 more cities this year. 10,000 custom EVs will be on the road delivering to customers worldwide by 2022.

With the brand touching approximately 2.5 billion package deliveries a year, the move is sure to make a huge impact on the overall sustainability of the environment. The custom-made EVs by Rivian have a driving range of 240km on a full charge. Seeing EVs coming in to deliver the packages has got many customers excited.

Amazon partners with Mahindra

Amazon India has partnered with Mahindra electric to fulfill its commitment towards climate change. Amazon had announced that it will include 10,000 EVs in its delivery fleet by 2025 in the country with regards to its pledge.  In partnership with Mahindra, Amazon has already deployed close to Mahindra Treo Zor in seven major cities viz. Bengaluru, Hyderabad, New Delhi, Bhopal, Indore, Ahmedabad and Lucknow.

The inclusion of the Mahindra EVs will also complement the Indian government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative as well. The Mahindra Treo Zor which was launched in October 2020 comes with an advanced Lithium-ion battery that allows ease of charging and offers the best-in-industry power of 8kW and the highest-in-class payload of 550kg. The EV also features drive by wire technology making driving the EV a fatigue-free task.
