However things are changing for the positive now and sedans like Dzire, Verna and Rapid are pulling in great numbers.  Previously also many good sedans were sold in India which sadly got discontinued due to one or other reason. 1) Maruti Baleno

The first Maruti Baleno sold in India was a sedan. This iconic car is loved by a lot of people in India. Maruti still sells the Baleno which is a premium hatchback and is completely different from the Baleno sedan.  The original Maruti Baleno was also a popular choice for rally enthusiast throughout the country. The sedan was powered by a 1.6-litre SOHC petrol engine. It was capable of producing 93.7bhp/5,500rpm of power and 130Nm/3,000rpm of torque.

2) Chevrolet Optra

Chevrolet left India but we still do miss some of its iconic cars. The Chevrolet Optra is one of them. Ex-showroom price of this sedan was between Rs. 8.17 lakh and Rs. 11.83 lakh. It had two petrol engines on offer. The 1.6-litre 1599cc engine produced 100bhp and 148Nm. The 1.8-litre 1799cc engine produced 114bhp and 156Nm. Both manual and automatic transmission was available with this sedan. It came with all the modern features for its time and was quite a good looking sedan. 3) Chevrolet Cruze

This is one of the most popular Chevrolet cars sold in India. Despite being pricey, the Cruze has enjoyed unprecedented popularity in India. The last recorded price of the Chevrolet Cruze was between Rs. 16.15 lakh and Rs. 19.56 lakh. It came with a 2.0-litre 1998cc Diesel engine which produced 164bhp and 360Nm. Both manual and automatic transmission was present with the sedan. It was one of the most beautiful yet aggressive looking car in its segment.

4) Ford Ikon

Ford has also become quite a famous car brand in India. Cars like EcoSport, Freestyle and Aspire have been doing well but not the best. The Ford Ikon is also a legendary car in India. The last recorded ex-showroom price of the Ford Ikon was between Rs. 4.82 lakh and Rs. 5.25 lakh. There were multiple engine options available with the sedan. The 1.4-litre 1399cc diesel engine produced 68bhp and 160Nm. There was also a 1.8-litre 1753cc engine option with the car. The 1.3-litre 1299cc petrol engine produced close to 70bhp and 100Nm. It also came with a 1.4 and a 1.6-litre petrol engine option.

5) Mitsubishi Lancer

Mitsubishi is a very popular car marker in the international market. Sadly in India, the company was not able to perform very well. The Lancer was also quite a famous rally car during its time. The last recorded price of the Lancer was between Rs. 7.33 lakh and Rs. 8.13 lakh which is quite expensive by the industry standards then. It came with 1 petrol and 1 Diesel engine option. The 2.0-litre 1998cc diesel engine produced 68bhp and 120Nm of torque. The 1.5-litre 1468cc engine produced 86bhp and 132Nm of torque.
