The mid-level hatchback segment is not one of the most competitive segments present in the Indian car market. While there is fierce competition in the lower/higher-end segments, the mid-segment is in a bit of a weird spot. Popular cars like Maruti Alto and WagonR completely overshadow the Celerio. However, Maruti Celerio was one of the first cars in the Indian market to launch with an AMT transmission at an affordable price. Find out inside about the new 2021 Maruti Celerio spy shots.

New Platform and Dimensions

Maruti Celerio Spyshots

One of the biggest change in 2021 Maruti Celerio will be the new platform update. Maruti Celerio’s update will be based on the new HEARTECT platform. The same platform is being used in the current generation Maruti WagonR. The new platform promises better safety along with dual airbags and ABS with EBD. As you can see from the spy shots above, premium features like rear wiper will also be available.

The changes in platform will invariably lead to changes in dimensions. . The entry-level segment is Maruti’s strong point and the new Celerio will help boost sales after COVID. The new car is said to increase in all parameters compared to the current-gen Celerio. From the spy shots it is visible that the new 2021 Maruti Celerio has retained a mix of its curves and straight lines.  We estimate the new car to feature dimension like the Hyundai i10 Nios.

Engine and Transmission

Upcoming Maruti Suzuki Celerio

Maruti is expected to offer the updated Celerio with the same 1.0-litre petrol engine (68PS/90Nm) as the current generation with the choice of a 5-speed MT and 5-speed AMT. It may also get the option of a 1.2-litre petrol engine (83PS/113Nm) with the same transmission options. The Maruti Celerio was the first car from Maruti with AGS technology. We expect a new AMT transmission to make its way under the hood of the new Maruti Celerio. Magna Marelli components in the new car will be the highlight of the new Maruti Celerio.

Maruti Celerio New

The next-gen Celerio could come at a small premium over the current model priced between Rs 4.41 lakh and Rs 5.68 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Celerio will continue to sell between the S-Presso and the WagonR with a launch likely in early-2021. The Celerio still rivals the likes of the Hyundai Santro, Tata Tiago and Datsun Go.
