Upcoming Rs 10 Lakh Off-Roader
The Maruti Suzuki Jimny, which is touted to be the modern Gypsy, is an off-roader which could remind the country of days when Gypsy ruled the off-roading department. Maruti Suzuki has already started exporting the Jimny to some foreign countries. In this article, we will discuss this upcoming Rs 10 Lakh off-roader.
Exterior
The Maruti Jimny has maintained some resemblance to the original Gypsy, from which it looks to take inspiration from. The commonalities can be seen in the round headlights and horizontal tail-lamps placed on the bumper. Maruti Suzuki has taken the design cues further to the square quarter-glass on the Jimny, which resembles the square-shaped slider window which Gypsy used to offer.
Moreover, the spare wheel attached to the back of the car is another commonality. Even the body cladding on the Jimny resembles the Gypsy up to some extent.
The 3-door version which the foreign markets get might not be available here. Maruti Suzuki might bring in a 5-door version, specially made keeping in mind the Indian customers’ requirements.
Engine
The engine on the Jimny is expected to be the same 1.5-litre K15 Petrol engine which we get to see on the Ertiga, Ciaz and some other cars of Maruti Suzuki. The power figures are however expected to be buffed by a bit on the petrol engine since it will be an off-roading focused product.
With Jimny being offered with a petrol engine only in the foreign markets, and the original Gypsy also being petrol-powered, we are not sure if Maruti would bring a diesel engine for the Jimny.
Features
On the features front, the Jimny is expected to get a touchscreen infotainment system, multi-function steering wheel, ABS with EBD, dual airbags and ESP. The Jimny is also expected to come as a rear-wheel-drive if Maruti does not offer the Jimny with a 4WD.
Launch
Maruti has already started exporting the 3-door version of the Jimny to foreign countries, so we expect to see the 5-door version of the upcoming Rs 10 Lakh off-roader coming sometime this year. The pricing is expected to be kept competitive to make the Jimny affordable.
