The SUV segment has become very popular in India. Cars like Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Hyundai Venue have only made the competition tougher. The Hyundai Creta despite being expensive is the highest selling SUV in India. This shows that people are ready to spend the cash for premium SUV looks and trust. Taking a hint from this culture, Maruti launched the Ignis which is an urban-SUV. For people under a budget looking for SUV looks, the Ignis is a great option against other boring looking options as the Santro. Now Tata and Hyundai too are set to release their products to compete against the Maruti counterpart. Find out below about the upcoming Tata Rs 6 lakh SUV in India.

Design and Looks

Tata’s upcoming Rs 6.00 lakh SUV in India

The new Tata HBX carries Harrier styled looks. Similar to the Tata Safari launched recently, it will have its own set of differences. A prominent split headlamp look will be present with the new Tata HBX. The vertically split headlamp design is inspired by the Harrier, while the thick, piano black horizontal slat resembles the one on the Nexon. The front grille is also vertically split, and its lower portion will sport bi-arrow elements, the same as Nexon. As you can clearly see, Tata wants to use the best bits from all of its products and make something unique looking. The car will be built on the ALFA platform as the Altroz.

Launch Price and Competition

Tata’s upcoming Rs 6.00 lakh SUV in India

Last shown on Auto Expo 2020, Tata promised that the production car will be 90% similar. Tata HBX is a concept name, and the actual SUV may be sold as Tata Hornbill in India. Tata may launch the SUV in India before the end of 2021. The Tata HBX will compete against rivals such as the Mahindra KUV100 and the Maruti Suzuki Ignis. Hyundai AX1 when launched will also be a tough competition. It is expected to be priced from around Rs 6 lakh when it launches for the base variant. Hyundai AX1 and others will also compete against this car.

Engine and Performance

HBX

The HBX is expected to be powered by the same 1.2-litre petrol engine as seen on the Altroz. This makes with 84bhp at 6,000rpm and 113Nm at 3,300rpm. This is expected to be paired with a 5-speed manual and an AMT. It is based on the ALFA structure, same as the Altroz. The competition Maruti Ignis on the also comes with a 1.2-litre petrol engine option. If the Tata HBX becomes quite popular, Tata may launch its turbo petrol engine of the Altroz with this car too. Interiors Spied

The Tata HBX has also been spotted testing a couple of times now. The Tata Rs 6 lakh SUV features an upright dashboard which aims to free up space for the front passengers. The instrument console is not clearly visible on the spied car but we expect it to be a digital unit like in the Tiago and Tigor. The variant spied is equipped with a 5-speed manual gearbox as evident from the gear knob. We expect the HBX to be offered with an option of AMT as well. The stand-alone touchscreen infotainment system (similar to seen on Nexon) takes the centre stage and steering wheel is a flat-bottomed three-spoke unit. The tall seating position should offer good overall visibility from the cabin.
