The 847cc triple-cylinder motor powering the XSR900 is shared with its other siblings, the Yamaha FZ and the FJ-09. Other shared bits include the aluminium cycle frame and the swingarm as well. The design may hark back to its retro roots but the rest of the motorcycle is very much up-to-date with the technological advancements of the 21st century. The XSR900 gets three-stage traction control (minimum intervention, maximum intervention, and off), ABS assist and a slipper clutch.

The 41mm front forks are from KYB, who have also provided the single shock at the rear. Both, the front as well as the rear are adjustable for spring preload and rebound damping.

The riding position on the XSR900 too pays homage to the classics of yore, with the rider sitting further back in comparison with the FZ-09 according to Yamaha. Saddle height is a full 15mm taller and comes in bespoke burgundy stitching. Colour combinations on the XSR900 include a Matte Gray/Aluminum and 60th Anniversary Yellow. The yellow-and-black racing speedblocks on the aluminium fuel tank covers of the 60th Anniversary Yellow Colour option are sure to have many a motorcyclist go weak in the knees.

Fans will have to wait till February next year to know just how much they’ll have to shell out to have this piece of Yamaha’s retro-styled brilliance, with stocks arriving at dealers towards the beginning of April. Till then, stay tuned.
