The Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal (BBIN) Friendship Motor Rally 2015 in support of better regional integration & road safety flagged off recently from Bhubaneshwar. Backed by the Ministry of Road, Transport & Highways, and Government of India, the rally will cover over 4500 kms and has over 80 people participating in it.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has extended its support in the form of their reliable and popular cars – the Fortuner and the Innova for the rally. Present at the flag off were Honorable Justice Sir D. H. Waghela, Chief Justice, Odisha High Court, Vijay Chhibber, Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways Govt. of India, Mr. Shekar Viswanathan, Vice Chairman and Whole – time Director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor and Ambassadors/High Commissioners of the 4 participating countries.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Shekar Viswanathan, Vice Chairman and Whole Time Director, Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said, “We, at Toyota Kirloskar Motor, are privileged to be part of this rally that aims at enhancing people-to-people interactions from the four participating countries. This rally will open transport corridors that can turn into economic corridors which we believe, will drive change in a positive direction. Supporting this initiative is special for us as it also disseminates the awareness on importance of road safety, which is of paramount importance to us being the safety crusaders in the industry.”

From Bhubaneshwar, the BBIN Friendship Motor rally will go through Ranchi, Patna, Siliguri, Gangtok (India) before crossing over to Phuentsholing (Bhutan) Thimphu, Mongar, Samdrup Jongkar, and (Bhutan). It’ll then head to Guwahati, Sikkim, (India), Silchar, Agartala, Chittagong & Dhaka (Bangladesh) before crossing the finish line at the Victoria Memorial, Kolkata. Also commenting on the event Mr. Vijay Chhibber – Secretary, MoRTH, said “BBIN friendship rally will further strengthen friendship, mutual-trust and cooperation between participating countries. Growing access will also help in establishing a stronger people to people bond. We hope to build more such cultural engagements in the future. We are happy to receive the participation from TKM and their support in promoting importance of Road Safety”.

In addition to the participation in the rally, TKM will be conducting a “Safety Seminar” in Guwahati on 25th November 2015 to spread the importance of Road Safety in presence of senior officials from Central and State governments, local administration and media. TKM management and senior officials will be present on different occasions during the progress of rally in its support.

The BBIN Friendship Motor Rally celebrates the ratification of the ‘Motor Vehicle Agreement for the Regulation of Passenger, Personal, and Cargo Vehicular Traffic with Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal, to smoothen cross border vehicle movement and to deepen regional integration by enhancing road connectivity.
