Electric cars are here to stay in India. Every manufacturer has big plan for India. Brands like Renault have EVs in the pipeline for India. The brand has already shown us at the 2020 Auto Expo cars like the Twizy, Zoe EV and the Kwid K-ZE (you can scroll down to check out the video). The 2021 Renault Kwid Electric K-ZE is a car that is already being sold in China. The car is one of the most affordable EVs in China -+ too and costs around Rs 6 lakhs to Rs 8 lakhs. But what does that mean for India?

2021 Renault Kwid Electric

2021 Renault Kwid Electric When will it come?

Now apart from expressing interest, Renault India has not spoken about the any upcoming launch or model chosen for India. But it is clear that Renault will be keenly considering the Kwid as the platform to serve as their first affordable electric offering in India. The car will be expensive if imported from China as a CBU. The car is being built currently with local partner – DongFeng in China. It is manufactured by eGT New Energy Automotive Co, which is a Joint Venture with Dongfeng Motor Group and the Alliance Group (Renault-Nissan-Datsun-Mitsubishi). So if the car has to be sold here, there needs to be localization. We could see some announcement or atleast some kind of teaser this year.

The car uses a Tainjin Lishen 30kWh ternary lithium battery. So it is affordable and cheaper than is European peers. The car consumes 10.8 kWh per 100 km, which means the driving range on a single charge is 271 km.

Competition and Price

The car will compete with many upcoming electric cars like the Maruti WagonR. But given its size and positioning, the car could be cheaper than the WagonR and be the most affordable EV with a starting price of around Rs 6 lakhs. It will be a gamechanger and make more people defiantly consider buying a EV for daily use.
