Maruti Suzuki Swift 2021; what’s new?

A facelifted version of the best-selling Maruti Suzuki Swift has just been spied in Gujarat, India. The car is expected to be launched later this year. The spy shots show a Maruti Swift with a camouflaged front end that hides the front grille and bumper. There’s no other camouflaged part on the car, and this indicates that the facelift is likely to be a mild one at best. This is also the reason why we expect the facelifted Swift to launch soon. Find inside more about Maruti Suzuki Swift 2021.

More about Facelift Exteriors

The test mule seems to be that of the India-spec Maruti Suzuki Swift facelift. The grille of the prototype has been covered by a cardboard sheet, which hints at this being the facelift, given that this is the only change that the global-spec model has received. The test prototype also features a dual-tone paint scheme that includes a black roof and A-pillar.

New interiors?

Besides these updates, the Swift facelift is unlikely to feature any cosmetic changes to its exteriors. As for the interiors, we can expect a slightly different trim for the cabin. That said, the Swift facelift could receive more features over the outgoing model. Better Connected car tech, air purifier, better sound system, ambient lighting and other modern features can be expected.

Engine and Performance

The 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine has been proven to be peppy and enjoys a wide acceptance in India. In its latest avatar, the motor produces 90bhp and 113Nm of torque. Maruti is likely to use the facelift opportunity to introduce a mild hybrid system with an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG).

The existing 5-speed manual and AMT gearbox options will be carried forward. Maruti has discontinued the diesel powertrain option in the BS6 era and we don’t see its reintroduction anytime soon. However there was some indication of Maruti bringing back the diesel engines soon. More about Maruti Suzuki Swift 2021 below.

Launch and Price

As there are not many changes, the 2021 Maruti Swift can be launched by the end of Q1 2021. Price can also be expected to remain largely with a slight increase due to modern features. The Tata Tiago NRG which was earlier spotted testing will get heavy competition from this car. The Maruti Swift facelift will rival the Hyundai Grand i10 Nios, Tata Tiago and similarly priced micro-crossovers as well.

The Swift continues to be one of the best selling cars in India and the facelifted version would be maintaining the status quo. However, in the medium term, with the impending arrival of several small crossovers like the Tata HBX, Citroen CC21 and Hyundai AX1, the Swift will have its task cut out, not just in India but also in international markets.
