Morris Garages is planning to launch the MG ZS SUV in India in the first half of 2021. However, the India-spec model will be produced at the carmakers Gujarat based plant. The local production will help the carmaker achieve competitive pricing. Here, it’s expected to be priced between Rs 8 lakh – Rs 9 lakh (ex-showroom). Ahead of the launch, ASEAN NCAP results of the 2020 ZS SUV have been published. The ZS SUV has received a spectacular 5-star safety rating in the latest ASEAN NCAP test. The test was conducted on ZS units which were manufactured in Thailand and were meant for both Thailand and Vietnam markets. In the Adult Safety parameter the ZS had scored 44.82 while in the Child Occupant safety parameter the ZS scored 20.90.

The tested model was equipped with the standard dual airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC) and seatbelt reminder system. It was the 1.5L petrol-powered variant carrying a kerb weight of 1290kgs. The safety features were quite similar to standard safety features present in India. However change in build quality can impact the India-spec car scores.

What about the global variant?

MG ZS Petrol gets 5-star safety rating from NCAP

The MG ZS petrol is available globally with two powertrain options. A 1.5-litre VTi engine producing a maximum power output of 118bhp and a peak torque of 150Nm. There is also a 1.3-litre Turbo-Petrol engine option which produces a maximum power output of 161bhp and a peak torque of 230Nm.  The car in the international market comes with both 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmission unit.

Dimension Comparison

 

From the spyshots this car looks exactly the same as the ZS EV. So if we assume the dimensions to be the same then the car rivals the Hyundai Creta size-wise. The dimensions of the Creta are 4300mm x 1790mm x 1620mm. If we compare this to the size of the ZS EV then the EV has dimensions  4314 mm x 1809 mm x 1620mm. Dimensions of the car clearly indicate that it will be larger than Creta but smaller than the Hector.

Over the electric counterpart of the MG ZS Spyshots have 2 major noticeable changes. They have different alloy wheels and changes to the front and rear bumper are evident. Also, the fog lamp holders have a different shape.
