The sportier brother of the BMW X1 , the X2 , has been spotted during testing on the streets of Munich. The X2 is basically a X1 but with a slightly more sportier body. The lower roof makes is look wider and more masculine without using the coupeish roof featured on the bigger brothers X4 and X6.

With the X1 platform the X2 will come both as front-wheel-drive versions as well as all-wheel-drive versions with an possible X2 M on top of the line-up.

Powertrains will be mirrored from the X1 meaning a range of petrol and diesel options. And don’t rule out an plug-in hybrid either. The X2 gets a fastback-kind of a roof too like the X6 and BMW will have three SportsCoupe in its portfolio very soon.

The new-generation X2 will be launched in 2016 and it will be making its way into India by 2017. Even Audi is working on an SUV in between the Q3 and the Q5 at the moment.

The German automakers will want to cover all the segments of sedan and SUVs that are possible to increase their sales numbers. BMW is likely to power the X2 with a range of three and four-cinder petrol and diesel engines. There will also be an M version too. The X2 will also come with the 1.5-litre petrol and diesel engines that are being offered on the X1 as well.
