8 things to know about the Kia Sorento

Kia entered the Indian market last year with Seltos and has already become a pretty mature and big car manufacturer. Their latest entry, Kia Sonet is also doing quite well in terms of overall sales and has set the bar high in the segment.  Moreover, Korean automaker, Kia has recently revealed the new-gen 2021 Kia Sorento SUV, which will soon be launched in the USA and other European and North American markets. The new model was scheduled to make global debut at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show; however, the event was cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. 1) Bigger than Before

Kia already showcased the previous generation of the Sorento during the Delhi 2020 Auto Expo. Thanks to a new platform, the new Kia Sorento is slightly bigger than the previous model. The new model is 10mm longer than its predecessor, measuring 4,810mm in length. It features shorter front and rear overhangs, creating more space inside the cabin. The wheelbase has been increased by 35mm to 2,815mm, which should help the brand to improve legroom space for both second and third-row occupants. The height has been raised by 10mm.

2) Third Row Occupants?

When we mention, third-row occupants we mean that Kia Sorento will also be available as 7-seater. Similar to the previous model, the new-gen Sorento is available in both 5 and 7-seat options. The Kia Sorento is one step lower than Telluride. In the global markets, it directly rivals the Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace and others. 3) New Platform

The new-gen Kia Sorento SUV is based on the third-generation N3 platform. The new generation Kia Carnival also uses the same platform. This platform is compatible enough to accommodate different body styles and different engines including hybrid, petrol and diesel. Thus Kia Sorento will be quite ready for the EV revolution going on in the industry.

4) Safety Features

The new-gen Kia Sorento is available with a wide range of active and passive safety features. The advanced driver assistance system comprises of Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Blind-Spot View Monitor, and  Intelligent Speed Limited Assist. Additional features include Surround View Monitor, Blind Sport Collision-Avoidance Assist,  Smart Cruise Control with Stop & GO, Lane Assist, Driver Attention Warning and Highway Driving Assist. In India, some of these features may not be available.

5) Bigger Boot

Everyone in India loves extra space and the Kia Sorento will have plenty of that. The new Kia Sorento 2021 features a 32% bigger boot. It offers 187-litres of boot space with all seven seats in place. You can also fold the third-row seats to get 821-litres of boot space.

6) Modern Lush Interiors

The interior of the new-gen Kia Sorento shares a lot of features and advanced technologies from the bigger Telluride. Some of the features a 12-speaker Bose surround-sound system, automatic climate control,  and UVO Connect car tech. Additional features include Mood Lighting system, wireless smartphone charger, charging points for second and third row of seats, heads-up display, etc. One-touch panoramic sunroof will also be a huge attraction.

7) BIG Touchscreen

Touchscreen infotainment system has become a normal feature in higher segment/ expensive cars. The cabin of the new Kia Sorento features twin digital displays in the dashboard. There is a 12.3-inch digital driver instrument console, which merges well with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment and navigation system at the center of the dashboard. The connection makes the twin digital displays to form a single unit. Another variant in the international market has a number of good old physical buttons to do the things you want to do manually; and second, the UVO interface on the 7-inch center screen (which grows to 8 when you select the navigation option) is a pleasant breeze to operate.

8) Inspiration from Kia Telluride

The new generation Kia Sorento shrugs off the frankly anonymous ovoid shell of previous generation in favour of a much more athletic one replete with angles and bulges. Kia Sorento features similar styling like Kia Telluride. However, Kia has made enough changes to transform this into a new product.
