The EcoSport set the early benchmark in the compact SUV segment. It led to a range of sub-four-metre SUVs to follow over the years. However, the EcoSport, which is a top seller for the brand globally, has not undergone a generation change and that certainly hurts its sales compared to modern rivals. Ford EcoSport can said to be the creator of the sub-compact SUV segment, but recent sales figures do not do justice to the car. 1) New Design and looks

Recent spy-shots have emerged on the internet showing the front grille of a new Ford SUV. The design could have been influenced by the Italian design house Pininfarina, which is said to play a part in the styling of the Ford C-SUV as well as the 2021 Mahindra XUV500.

The large radiator grille which is sort of a signature design element of the EcoSport has been ditched in favour of a new design. Moreover, the cosmetic updates do not look to be of a typical facelift but Ford appears to be extending the lifespan of the existing generation to full effect.

The 2021 Ford EcoSport boasts of a redesigned grille with black and chrome inserts. The front bumper is also restyled with the lower section making way for a wider air intake and just above on either side, you could see the vertically positioned lighting housing. In addition, the triple-stacked LED Daytime Running Lights give a sportier vibe while a sleeker pair of headlamps will also be available.

2) Better Platform

According to sources,  the 2021 Ford EcoSport will be designed on the modified version of the existing B3 platform. It’s the first B architecture developed by Ford’s global product development process. Its modified version is likely to be more robust than the existing one. The India-spec version of the subcompact SUV could be based on the same new platform.

3) Better features

Features in cars have only been increasing with recent new car launches. Ford too will want to provide new, modern and exciting features with its new SUV to attract new customers. Cars like the Kia Sonet have already raised the bar quite high. It’s likely to come with a larger touchscreen with Sync4 infotainment system with latest smartphone connectivity. We can also expect more comfort goodies and safety fitments.

4) Better Engine and Performance

The current generation Ford EcoSport comes with a turbocharged petrol and diesel engine. Both are 1.5-litre. As for the performance, the Mahindra-sourced 1.2-litre petrol turbocharged petrol engine that can also be found in the XUV300 could be used in the 2021 Ford EcoSport.

5) More Space

The 2021 Ford EcoSport might also witness some dimensional changes. It might grow in size and offer more cabin space than the existing model. The boot space of the new model will also be improved. To stand out among the competition, Ford will have to make some very noticeable changes to the EcoSport to entice new customers.
