The Suzuki Swift Hybrid was first showcased in 2017 in Japan in its home market. After that, the company showcased it in the Indonesian Auto Expo in 2018. Finally the Maruti Suzuki Swift Hybrid was showcased in India during the Auto Expo 2018/20. COVID pandemic resulted in a lot of delays in car launches throughout the world. The new Maruti Suzuki Swift Hybrid may finally launch sometime in 2021 in India.

Not a mild hybrid

The main difference between the other hybrid Maruti products in India is that the Swift will not be a mild hybrid. The Swift Hybrid is not a mild hybrid like the Ciaz, Ertiga or the S-Cross. This means that the hatchback is a proper hybrid that’s capable of running on pure electricity if needed. Notably, Maruti Suzuki had showcased this technology at the 2018 Auto Expo in Delhi.

Distinguishing the Hybrid Swift isn’t going to be very easy. On the outside, there’s a tiny Hybrid badge on the boot, and a slightly revised grille that now features a honeycomb-like pattern. Save for these minor details, it looks like any other Swift.

Petrol engine and Performance

Powering the Swift Hybrid is Suzuki’s 1.2-litre K12C Dualjet engine that develops 91PS of power and 118Nm of torque, that’s paired with a 5-speed AMT. This petrol engine is supplemented by an electric motor that adds an extra 13.6PS and 30Nm to the tally. The motor is powered by a 100V Lithium-ion battery placed in the boot of the car. The overall fuel efficiency of the car stands at 32kmpl.

Interiors and Price

Updates to the interior are subtler still. This includes blue detailing on the gear lever, and an updated instrument cluster that gets a coloured MID. The rest of the cabin, predictably remains identical to the standard hatchback. Many safety features which are standard on the international car market will be missing in the Indian spec variant. The Maruti Suzuki Swift full hybrid is also expected to cost around Rs.8.5-9.5 lakh. For its price, it will become the cheapest full-hybrid vehicle in our country.
