The seven-seater segment has been slowly gaining popularity as well as Tata as a manufacturer. Tata Harrier, a successful car now in the Indian market led to the birth of an elder sibling in the form of Gravitas. The Tata Gravitas was first shown during the Auto Expo 2020 in February with launch date around end of 2020. However the pandemic delayed all plans of Tata and we may see the car only in 2021.

Something more than Harrier

The Tata Gravitas is a seven-seat derivative of the Harrier, but is meant to be more than just a Harrier with an additional row of seats. The Gravitas is 63mm longer and 80mm taller than the Harrier. Both SUVs share the same wheelbase of 2,741mm.

The 7-seater Tata Gravitas shares its styling with the Harrier till the B-pillar, after which it has unique design with a longer rear overhang. A stepped roof to accommodate the third row is new. Additionally, the seven-seater will also get unique alloy wheel designs and colour palettes to differentiate it further from the Harrier.

New Features

The 7-seater Tata Gravitas will get electric steering, driving modes, ESP. Air purifier and connected car tech may also be available. It will be quite similar to the MG Hector Plus which was launched recently with a local touch added to it. You will get a 2.0-litre engine with this car. Tata has made this car on Land Rover’s modified platform and provided a finishing touch to it.

The Gravitas will see strong competition from the MG Hector Plus and  Mahindra XUV500, which will see a full-model change by April 2021.  Additionally, Hyundai is also readying a seven-seat version of the popular Hyundai Creta SUV which will also rival the Gravitas.

Additional features

Tata is known for its safety and this new car will be no exception. Airbags, ABS with EBD and many other safety features will be made available from the base variant itself. The Auto Expo model did not have a sunroof but we hear there is a high possibility of panoramic sunroof in the production variant of the car.  You will also get connected car technology in this car to help it stand equally against its arch-rival the Hector Plus.  This 7-seater Tata Gravitas will be priced close to the Hector Plus which comes with a price tag between Rs.13.48 to Rs.18.53 lakh.
