Expectations about the new Renault Kiger

The sub-compact SUV segment has become one of the highest-grossing car segments in our country very quickly. People love the affordability and dimensions of compact-SUVs and every manufacturer is competing here. There are more than 8 cars competing in this segment alone. Nissan Magnite which was recently launched is the latest entry in the segment. The Renault Kiger which will be launched soon is heavily based on the Nissan Magnite. Here is what we expect from the Upcoming Renault Kiger.

Engine and Performance

According to sources, the Renault Kiger will come with two engine options: 1.0L three-cylinder naturally aspirated engine and 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine. Both engine options will come with a 5-speed manual transmission option with some form of automatic transmission as well.

Renault will also have to provide something unique and value for money to attract customers. New launches like the Kia Sonet and Toyota Urban Cruiser have raised the stakes high in the compact-SUV segment.

Exterior Design and Concept

Renault has already claimed that the Kiger production-spec will share 80% of its design elements with the Kiger Concept. This is a good thing because it is very rare that the concept version of a car is that close to the production version. Renault Kiger will share its platform and engine with the Nissan Magnite.

The Kiger will be a sub-compact SUV, which means it will fall under 4 meters, so that it can take advantage of the lower taxes. Just like the Magnite, the Kiger will also have the benefit of high localization production. This and the shared underpinning will help in keeping the costs down as compared to the competition. Both the SUVs get the CMF-A+ platform.

Interior Elements

For the interior, Renault will share some of the design elements and parts with the Triber which is a sub-4 metre MPV. It will get a floating touchscreen infotainment system which will offer wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Rotary knobs for climate control may be seen.

There will be two glove boxes, one of which will be cooled to store your beverages. It will get push button to start/stop, digital instrument cluster, ABS with EBD, multi-function steering wheel, rear parking sensors, reverse parking camera and much more. Center Armrest and adjustable headrest can also be expected in the higher trims of the car.
