Mahindra Thar was one of the most anticipated car launches in the Indian car market after a very long time. The newly launched car did impress everyone by being more advanced ahead of the predecessor. Mahindra confirms that more than 50% of Thar buyers are new-car buyers. 1) Thar AX Std

This is the base variant of the Mahindra Thar in terms of price. This variants costs Rs.9.80 lakh and only comes with a petrol engine. It comes with soft-top roof and side-facing rear seats. The Mahindra Thar base variant comes with standard safety features like dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensor, seat belt reminder and high-speed alert is present. Additional features include Day/Night IRVM, Tilt steering, Manual AC, Central locking, and front power windows. R16 steel rims with LED taillamps present. This variant does not come with Mahindra Thar’s basic off-road features which defeat the purpose of buying the car and only makes it a cosmetic piece.

2) Thar AX

The Mahindra Thar AX petrol costs Rs.10.65 lakh while Diesel AX costs Rs.10.85 lakh. For an additional price, you get side footsteps and mechanical locking differential. Features like electrically adjustable ORVMs, Audio system with steering mounted controls and remote keyless entry is missing. If Mahindra Thar is going to be your primary vehicle, please opt for a higher spec variant. The Mahindra Thar AX comes with Soft(non-easily removable) roof and 6-seat configuration.

3) Thar AX Optional

The Mahindra Thar AX optional in the petrol avatar costs Rs.11.19 lakh while the Diesel avatar costs upto Rs.12.20 lakh.  The main difference between Thar AX and Thar AX opt are the different roof and seating options. The Mahindra Thar AX opt comes in Soft Convertible and Hard roof options. This variant also comes only with two front-facing seats at the rear. The rear seats come with recline feature and adjustable headrests. Extra features in this variant include roll cage, height-adjustable driver seat and remote keyless entry. The Hardtop Diesel variant of the SUV also comes with rear defogger.

The Diesel That AX opt is the most affordable primary car variant of the Mahindra Thar. It comes with a lot of practical exteriors and interior features thus making it a perfect city-usage choice.  This is also the perfect off-road machine in the Mahindra Thar lineup.

4) Mahindra Thar LX

The Mahindra Thar LX costs Rs.12.49 lakh for the petrol engine variant while the Diesel avatar costs upto Rs.12.95 lakh. Many new safety features are included here like Electronic stability control, fog lamps and tire pressure monitoring system. The 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system also adds a modern touch to the interiors.  Unique features for this variant include lumbar support, cruise control, electrically adjustable ORVMs, and brake locking differential. Dual-tone front bumper, 18-inch alloy wheels, coloured MID and better-looking AC controls to increase the overall appeal of the SUV. The LX variant additional features costs much more than the price difference. Thus this upgrade is a no-brainer.
