The real-SUV segment in India does not have many rivals competing as of now. The Mahindra Thar which was recently launched is the only true contender in its segment. Force Gurkha is expected to make an appearance next year but people have been eagerly waiting for Maruti Jimny now. This small SUV has already begun production in India but is only exported. The manufacturer already showcased the car in Auto expo 2020 but did not confirm any launch date. Also, the Maruti Jimny was launched in Mexico 2 days back and it has got a great amount of success.

In an interview with Times Drive, Shashank Srivastava mentioned that Maruti Suzuki is currently conducting market research. Maruti is taking feedback from customers and consumers. This will help them decide if the Jimny should be launched in the country and in what price range. There are also rumours that Suzuki could introduce a five-door version of Jimny in India to make it a more practical model. The three-door variant was retailed in Europe and other international markets.

But it looks like we will have to wait for a while for these details to be officially revealed to us. In a nutshell, the company has still not confirmed if Jimny will be launched. However, the fact that it is conducting proper market research and has even started testing the vehicle in the country suggest that Thar could get another rival next year.

The Mahindra Thar which is sold only as a three-door version looks pretty practical to Indians who have booked so many cars that Mahindra is not able to fulfil the demands. Maruti is really giving up on a lot of potential customers by delaying the launch of the vehicle. In absence of the competition, people will continue buying Thar for added cost and long waiting period. More about if the Maruti Jimny is finally ready for launch in India below.
