Ford Endeavour in India has been one of the most famous SUVs in the Indian car market. This SUV from Ford faces tough competition from Toyota Fortuner and Mahindra Alturas G4 as of now. The first generation of Ford Endeavour was sold in India between 2003-2006. The Ford Endeavour Hurricane was sold in India from 2009-2014 with periodic updates. Was it a better Endeavour than the one that we have now?

The last noted price of the discontinued SUV was around Rs.20 lakh. The Ford Endeavour Hurricane came with a 2953cc engine which produced a maximum power output of 154bhp@3200rpm. The peak torque output of the engine was 380Nm@2500rpm. 210mm of ground clearance, fuel tank capacity of 71 litres and a top speed figure of 152km/hr promised unparalleled off-road performance. It came in both 4×2 and 4×4 variants.

The new Ford Endeavour currently sold comes with a 1996cc engine which is definitely smaller but produces 167.62bhp at 3500rpm and a peak torque output of 420Nm at 2000-2500rpm. The new Ford Endeavour comes with 225mm of ground clearance, 80 litres of fuel tank capacity and a top speed around 180km/hr. All these specifications clearly show the advancement in engineering in the automotive sector. The newer engine consumes less fuel but performs better in every aspect. It also comes in both 4×2 and 4×4 variants.

The new Ford Endeavour is definitely better in all the aspects but gets beaten in overall length. The Ford Endeavour Hurricane is longer than the new variant by 157mm, which is quite impressive.

Comfort and Connvineance

The older Ford Hurricane surely didn’t come with Android Auto and Apple Car play but the car did come with a touchscreen DVD player.  Steering mounted controls, Rear AC vents, Remote fuel lid opener, Rear washer/wiper/defogger, power windows, leather seats and sunroof were some included features. Safety features on the car included dual airbags with parking sensors, ABS with EBD which have recently become mandatory.

The new Ford Endeavour comes with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with both Android Auto and Apple Car Play. Additional features include 10 speakers, Active Noise Cancellation, all power windows,  dual-zone climate control, 60:40 split rear seats, the engine start button on the key and many more advanced features. Safety features on the present generation SUV include 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, Day and Night IRVM, Traction Control, Electronic Stability Control, Speed-sensing locks, ISOFIX and Hill assist. Though the car costs around Rs.10 lakh(due to inflation and others) more than the Hurricane it does come with features worth the extra money. The older Hurricane was a great car of its time and did make many Indians its die-hard fans.
