Kia Sonet was one of the most anticipated car launches in our country in 2020. The sub-compact SUV segment is highly competitive and Kia had big shoes to fill in. After the launch, people were a fan of its features for its price/segment. Find out below what you get with the base variant of the Kia Sonet: HTE in MotorOctane

Exterior and looks

Sonet HTE (14)

Starting with the key of the car, you get two simple basic keys without any functionality. Lock and Unlock function with the key would be a welcome addition.  The Kia Sonet base variant comes with the same signature tiger-nose grille which became quite famous with the Seltos.  You also do not get any chrome/silver styling elements all over the car.

The car from the exteriors is pretty basic/dull looking.  The false skid plate look with some grey insert add a little pinch of sportiness.  You only get halogen headlamps without any fog lamps.  15-inch wheel with steel rims and wheel covers also look quite basic and good.  You get body-coloured ORVMs without turn indicators.  The handlebars are also body coloured with keyholes upfront.  Black cladding all around the SUV adds to the SUV-like looks of the vehicle. Pole style antenna with the SUV also looks pretty basic.

High mount stop lamp is present without any reverse parking camera but two sensors. You also cannot open the boot of the car from outside.  Heartbeat taillamps with reflective light strip connecting them enhance the basic look of the SUV at the rear.  The plastic cladding near the top looks a little cheap.

Interiors of the car

Sonet HTE (12)

You get electrically adjustable mirrors without the fold function. The steering column can also be adjusted only for height difference.  Silver accents on the interiors of the SUV adds the much-needed premiumness to the SUV. The 3.5 inch MID in the instrument cluster comes with a lot of functionality. Steering mounted controls will help you control this.  The lack of even a basic infotainment system and the presence of plastic covering there is very disappointing.  Manual AC controls with vertical AC vents look good.

The glove box size is also pretty decent.  The centre front armrest with storage space is a sweet addition to the SUV.  Fabric seats are also quite comfortable and good looking. Adjustable headrest on the front is also better.  The second row does not get armrest and gets fixed headrest. Rear AC vents enhance the look of the rear. Manual windows at the rear are also a letdown. Only the front row gets power windows. The best part of the interiors are the silver/grey accents. Conclusion about Kia Sonet HTE on MotorOctane below.

Conclusion

Sonet HTE (7)

Both petrol and diesel engine is available in the HTE variant. The 392 litres of boot space is also decent with the similar-sized spare tyre. Lack of parcel tray and boot light seem like a missing feature. The Kia Sonet’s base variant HTE with the 1.2L petrol engine and 5-speed manual transmission costs Rs.7.83 lakh(On-road Mumbai). The 1.5L Diesel engine with 6-speed transmission costs Rs.9.63 lakh (On-road Mumbai)
