While we had earlier reported in March that Maruti was working on an AMT (automated manual transmission) version for the Wagon R, the same has now been spied at a Maruti dealership, thereby hinting at a launch in the coming few days. To make the best of the festive season, Maruti might be looking at a launch around the auspicious period of Diwali.

The Wagon R by a 1.0-litre K- Series engine, that does duty in the Celerio and Alto K10. Maruti sources its AMT from Magneti Marelli, a Fiat group company and recently  Magneti Marelli has increased its AMT production by starting a new plant in Manesar, specifically for AMT production.

The car spotted here is in the Vxi trim. There is an indication that AMT will be available in the Lxi trim too, thus giving customers more choice. In the coming months, most of the upcoming compact vehicles are likely to get AMT to increase driving convenience, especially in the city.
