The premium hatchback segment, created by i20 became quite popular in the Indian car market. While the original Elite i20 was quite good in performance and looks, it was time for an update.  Earlier this week, the Korean car manufacturer replaced the second-generation i20 with the newly launched third-generation i20.  The new i20 continues to rival against Tata Altroz, Maruti Baleno, Toyota Glanza, and Honda Jazz. Find out Hyundai i20 Price comparison with Rivals below.

The Tata Altroz base variant XE is the cheapest premium hatchback car with petrol/manual transmission. The new Hyundai i20 Asta(O) is the most expensive variant of all among competition.  The Maruti Baleno Sigma variant is also a great choice for its price.  All the above cars come with naturally aspirated engines and a 5-speed manual gearbox.  The Toyota Glanza and Maruti Baleno mid-spec variants are the only car to come with a mild hybrid system.

Maruti Baleno

The new Hyundai i20 Asta CVT is still the most expensive petrol/automatic among the rivals.  The Maruti Baleno Delta CVT at Rs. 7.77 lakh is the most affordable petrol/automatic in its segment. There is no automatic transmission option with Tata Altroz, while rumours indicate a DCT soon. The Jazz automatic is a close second on the price charts; the top-spec version is about Rs 4,000 more than the range-topping i20 petrol-CVT, though Hyundai does not offer the CVT with the Asta(O) trim.

tata altroz front

Tata and Hyundai are the only carmakers to provide Diesel engine options after BS6.  The base variant of the Tata Altroz is still a lot cheaper Diesel alternative compared to the Hyundai i20. You also get much more variant options to choose from in the Tata Altroz. Altroz is also the safest car in its segment with a 5-star NCAP rating.

Turbo Petrol and Conclusion

The Hyundai i20 is the only premium hatchback car above with a turbo petrol engine. Prices of the same are mentioned below.

Hyundai i20 Hyundai i20
Variant Price
Sportz iMT Rs. 8.80 lakh
Asta iMT Rs. 9.90 lakh
Asta DCT Rs. 10.67 lakh
Asta (O) DCT Rs. 11.18 lakh

While the new Hyundai i20 prices seem to be a little bit overpriced compared to the competition, only the passing time will tell its overall value. The Maruti Baleno and Tata Altroz are great competitors in its segment and will require special effort to beat.
