TVS Suzuki Fiero was a 150cc bike which is sure to bring back some nice memories. Now with the new registration filled for the TVS Fierro name we might expect to this bike back again in the market. But why you TVS Fierro not be called Apache? What is the expectation with this bike? Why was it discontinued?

TVS Fierro 150

Fierro was a bike that was born from the TVS Suzuki tie-up. This bike was a 150cc bike with a very smooth engine. TVS continued to sell the bike even after Suzuki exited from the tie-up. The newer version of the Fierro was not as successful as the first one. The Fierro was removed from the market and other bikes like the Pulsar ruled the 150cc segment.

TVS currently has bikes from the 160cc to 300cc. What they are really missing on is the 125cc premium bike. They do not have a bike in the 125cc range but directly have 3 bikes in the 110cc range. The Fierro is expected to sit in this segment. The 125cc segment is something that the Apache also never touched. The reason why TVS won’t be using the Apache name for this is explained further but for now, take a look at the trademark filings.

If TVS decides in the 125cc they will have to develop a completely new engine which could be either a derivative of the Apache 160 or the bigger version of the Radeon engine. The sports commuter part of the 125cc segment seems to be more exciting with the rivals like Honda CB Shine, Hero Glamour and Bajaj Pulsar 125. Also we need not forget that TVS is killing it in the 125cc segment with the NTorq. This same engine on a bike could do wonders. This could be the TVS Fierro 125.

Why not Apache 125?

TVS-Fiero

TVS could have copied Bajaj by calling the new bike Apache 125. The very simple reason would be that TVS does not want to associate the Apache name with a 125cc bike. This might be owing to the fact that this bike won’t be sports-oriented. Also a Fierro might be targeted to an older audience who might have seen the bike in their childhood and might have been their dream bike. Its too early right now to speculate about the features and things that would be offered on the bike. Lets wait for TVS to officially announce the bike. With the way TVS has surprised us with the limited edition Apache it is really difficult to prdict the way this company might bring products to the market.
