A test mule of the Maruti Tour M (Ertiga) has been spotted doing test runs. Now the Maruti Ertiga already is in the Maruti Suzuki Arena Fleet with a petrol BS6 engine as well as the XL6 is in the Nexa as a more premium offering. This test mule that has been spotted is expected to be Maruti Ertiga Diesel. IS DIESEL COMING BACK? Will there be a Maruti Developed Diesel BS6 engine?

Is Diesel Coming Back?

Yes, it was going to. We all knew that diesel was coming back on Maruti but the actual question was when. Maruti said that they will not bring back diesel on their small cars but they did not define which one’s exactly.

Ertiga diesel

Getting a Maruti Ertiga diesel will be a good testing grounds of Maruti’s new diesel engine. The Maruti Ertiga when it was launched it got a 1.3-litre diesel engine from Fiat. This was replaced with a 1.5-litre engine which was made by Maruti itself.

1.5 ddis engine

As of now, we expect Maruti to keep the engine displacement the same. If they are looking to downsize the engine we expect better performance at least. The 1.5-litre engine is a 4 cylinder unit which Maruti had developed with a lot of investment. Getting a performance bump along with BS6 compliance would be a dream come true.

What Confirms the Test Car is Diesel?

At first, the engine noise is a bit loud like that of a diesel engine. For this check out the video pinned below.

Also the front quarter panel where the DDiS badging for Maruti Diesel car is usually spotted has been peeled off. Still, some of the residue of the glue clearly states that the Maruti Ertiga diesel was spotted in the form of a Tour M model.

6 speed gear box

We expect Maruti to bring back this vehicle with a diesel engine on the Tour M model which is a commercial specific MPV which is for taxi fleets. If this engine is introduced on the Maruti Ertiga then it might lead to speculation of it being offered on the Brezza and the Ciaz too.

The last thing that confirms that it is a diesel engine is the 6-speed manual transmission. This was seen on the 1.5-litre diesel engine previously and now on the test mule too.
