Kawasaki has taken the wraps off two new single-cylinder motorcycles at the Motor Show in Tokyo. Christened the Ninja 250 SL and the Z250 SL, both motorcycles are powered by the same, liquid cooled, single cylinder motor. The fuel-injected motor churns out about 27 Bhp of power and 22.

6 Nm torque, with a six-speed shifter helping to transfer power to the wheels.

The Ninja 250 SL is a fully-faired variant, coming in below the twin-cylinder Ninja 300 while the Z250 SL is in naked street fighter guise. Both motorcycles sport fuel tank capacities of eleven litres, and stretch out an equal 1935mm. Kawasaki however have approached both motorcycles brilliantly, playing with the rest of the dimensions and details to ensure that they suit their intended application to the T.

Thus, the sportier, fully-faired Ninja 250 SL is narrower by 15mm over it’s street focused, Z250 SL sibling. At the same time, the former is also 60mm taller. On the other hand, the Z250 SL naked gets a higher ground clearance of 180mm, with the Ninja 250 SL sitting at 165mm – shouldn’t be a problem negotiating speed-breakers though.

Split seating, trellis frame, monoshock at the rear and telescopic forks out front are what we have for you on the chassis and suspension front at this moment. Also, the handle bar on the street oriented Z250 SL is a single-piece affair, while the sportier Ninja 250 SL gets clip-ons. Kawasaki is likely to take the CKD route via Thailand when bringing these motorcycles into India. There have been no indicators on pricing as of yet, but if Kawasaki does indeed manage to price them within INR 20,000/30,000 of the KTM’s, then it’ll be terrific news for fans and buyers alike.
