The Skoda Rapid is the company’s most affordable offering for India. A few months ago, the company updated the Rapid with BS6-compliant engine. Skoda ditched the old 1.6L turbocharged petrol and diesel engine and introduced a new 1.0L turbocharged BS6 petrol engine. The engine is capable of producing 110PS of maximum power and a peak torque of 175Nm. The overall design of the Skoda Rapid has been quite the same and in need of an update.
What is new?
The upcoming Skoda Rapid will be based on the company’s ‘MOB AO IN’ platform and is expected to launch in the Indian market by end of 2021. Zac Hollis, who is the director of sales, Service and marketing confirmed that the new-gen Skoda Rapid is bound to come to India soon. The main change will be the design of the car. It will be heavily inspired by the Skoda Scala.
Triangular headlamps, vertically slatted grille, and premium chrome inserts will be available with the new car upfront. The company has tried to make the sedan as sporty and aggressive as possible. The rear end of the car with inverted L-shaped taillights with either Skoda or Rapid badging on the boot lid. A dual-tone colour option will also add to the styling of the car. Some additional accessories will help the car stand out.
What about features?
The currently sold Skoda Rapid comes with features like auto headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, rear AC vents, automatic climate control, cruise control, tilt and telescopic adjustable steering wheel and premium leather interiors. The new car will come with an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with all modern amenities and digital instrument cluster. The engine may remain the same with a 6-speed MT/AT transmission option. The current generation Skoda Rapid competes against VW Vento, Maruti Ciaz, Honda City, and Hyundai Verna. The ex-showroom price of this sedan is between Rs.7.99 lakh to Rs.11.80 lakh.
